Der Kaiser von Atlantis - Manhattan School of Music Graduate Opera Theatre
Recording Engineer, Mixing and Mastering.
One of the major challenges in this project was meeting the opera director’s requirement to avoid lavalier and hanging microphones—both of which are standard approaches in opera recording. To address this, I designed a system using four pressure zone microphones in a main and outrigger array, along with spot microphones on the pit instruments. This solution captured a natural, immersive sound while respecting the director’s vision and the acoustics of the performance.

Found Again - Cantori New York, Mark Shapiro
Recording Assistant Engineer, Editing, Denoising
This project required designing a recording and editing plan that could accommodate both the ensemble’s large size and its expansive dynamic range. The recording space also presented challenges, with acoustic artifacts and external noise that I addressed through advanced editing and denoising techniques. These solutions ensured a clean, balanced sound that preserved the power and nuance of the performances.

Are You Looking for Me? - Elevation, Arreon A. Harley-Emerson
Recording Assistant Engineer, Editing, Denoising, Assistant Mixing
This project blends traditional choral orchestration with contemporary genres, presenting unique challenges in both recording and editing. I developed and executed a detailed production plan to capture the full depth of the ensemble while supporting the modern elements of the music. From initial mixes to final edits, my focus was on preserving the richness of the performances and highlighting the album’s layered, narrative-driven sound.

Concerto for Solo Flute and Orchestra - Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra
Lead Engineer, Editing, Videographer, Mixing, Mastering
This performance took place in a concert venue that partnered with local high school programs, presenting several challenges. Acoustically, the hall lacked the design needed to support the ensemble performance, and also provided lighting that was equally difficult from a videography perspective. Musically, the piece itself demanded careful attention, with extreme dynamic contrasts ranging from extended pianissimo passages by the soloist to powerful full-orchestral forte accents.

Don Juan - Tanglewood Music Center Fellows
Lead Engineer, Editing, Mixing, Mastering
This recording captures the Tanglewood Music Center Fellows’ performance of Don Juan by Richard Strauss. The project presented unique challenges, including managing a large orchestral ensemble in a live performance setting while preserving the clarity of Strauss’s intricate textures. I designed a recording setup and editing workflow to capture both the power of the full orchestra and the nuance of individual sections, ensuring the dynamic range—from delicate, lyrical passages to soaring, dramatic climaxes—was faithfully represented. The result is a high-fidelity recording that highlights the energy, precision, and expressive depth of the the 2023 fellows’ performance.

Dogs of Orion - Benjamin Sigerson, Honoka Shoji, Raphael Agustin, Caity Gyorgy, Owen Chow
Lead Engineer, Producer, Editing, Mixing, Mastering
With the intent of exploring mythological themes across jazz and classical-infused genres, this record captures intricate musical narratives in both stereo and surround formats. A major challenge was crafting memorable, impressionistic sonic imagery to match the density of the mythology explored. By combining classical surround techniques—such as the Corey Martin Tree and the Hamasaki Square—with traditional jazz spot-microphone approaches.

McGill Symphony Orchestra - Pierre Mercure - Kaleidoscope
Lead Engineer, Editing, Mixing, Mastering
This piece explores the full expressive potential of the symphonic orchestra, unfolding through a wide range of dynamics and instrumental colors. Capturing such a vast palette in a recording presented a formidable challenge, requiring a carefully designed plan that ensured every detail of the arrangement was preserved with clarity and depth. To achieve this, the session combined traditional main microphone and flank arrays with spot microphones and specialized in-riggers, allowing both the grand scope and the subtle nuances of the performance to be faithfully represented.

Wiley Bartels - Realizations
Lead Engineer, Mixing, Mastering
This piece embraces the traditions of jazz recording, employing close-microphone techniques that capture each instrument with warmth and clarity. By isolating the instruments in this way, the session produced rich, detailed audio sources later carefully blended to shape the tune’s musical narrative. The central challenge lay in balancing these isolated audio sources with a sense of natural presence, ensuring that the recording felt true to the spirit of the musicians’ live performance. To achieve this, the tracking environment and recording plan design featured clear sightlines among the musicians, fostering both comfort and communication.
